Blue Monday 2/16 - Presidents' Day
It's another Blue Monday and I was rummaging (similar to plundering but more desperate) to find my weekly contribution. I'm sure all of you other lovely bloggers just found something right away didn't you? Everyone should go over to Smiling Sally's to see the wonders that will amaze you!
Well, not only is this Blue Monday but it is also Presidents' Day! So I thought I would go with the Red, White and BLUE theme today...get it?!
I have a lifelong fascination with the White House. I love tv shows (like The West Wing), movies (The American President, Air Force One, Clear and Present Danger) and books! I love books on the White House!
Today, let's take a look at some of my favorites. You will notice the books are on my mother's BLUE floral tablecloth.
First up is The Carter Family Favorites Cookbook, 1976. Featured are recipes by several family members including many by Miss Lillian's own cook.
One of my favorites is Inside the White House by Betty B. Caroli, 1992. It is full of wonderful stories and pictures!
The White House wedding of Lynda Bird Johnson escorted by her father LBJ.
What Blue Monday post would be complete without the BLUE Room?
The wedding of Pres. Richard Nixon's daughter Tricia.
The Truman family has always interested me. I think part of that is because Margaret was their only child. They were called the Three Musketeers. I could identify with that being an only child myself.
Margaret has written many books. I love the one about her mother, Bess W. Truman.
She and Pres. Harry Truman had a wonderful love affair together and wrote the most romantic letters to each other! Above is their wedding.
Margaret also wrote the book First Ladies. You would just love the stories!
As you can see, her mother was not too happy when her husband took his oath. She knew any semblance of a private life was certainly over.
A few others;
The one book I would dearly love to own the original publishing of this but it is very hard to find without paying $. It is Upstairs at the White House by Chief Usher J.B. West. I checked it out from the library on a yearly basis. If you love history, check your library for this one:
I appreciate all the wonderful comments you leave and especially those who have honored me by following my blog. Thank you!

We must be kindred souls. I just love all the stories about all our presidents and first ladies. I watch the History Channel a lot since they're doing so many stories about past presidents. Tomorrow night is one about the kidnapping of Lincoln's body after his death. Great books, I have to admit I havn't read any of them, but I'm sure I would love them. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Marty
Great post...love all the red,white,blue!
Happy Blue Monday!Happy President's Day

Oh no, I did not see that show today. I usually try to see them all, but I missed it. Was it a really neat one? I am looking forward to the one tomorrow night and I have watched all the shows this last week about Lincoln. They were very interesting. BTW, thanks for the visit and your gracious comments on my LR post. Hugs, Marty
Judy,
All of these books look great. I'm not so much into the White House decor but I would love to read about the First Ladies, especially the most recent one. Maybe it will go on sale!
Thanks for a good post that caught my interest & Happy President's Day & Blue Monday! :-)

Good idea to combine Blue Monday with President's Day. I grew up in Washington D.C. and have been to the White House several times. I was always so disappointed with the Blue Room because it doesn't have much blue in it, while the other rooms (Red, Green) are permeated with their color. Thanks for sharing. Happy Blue Monday.
Great post with blue and President's day! Thanks for sharing the history.
This is a great post! I think Harry Truman was one of the VERY, VERY FEW presidents that DIDN'T have affairs...so many of our presidents have been such womanizers that I have no respect for. Clinton, Kennedy, Roosevelt....so many more. It's pitiful because I can't, for the life of me, understand why Americans would have voted for Clinton A SECOND time when they KNEW what kind of man he was!
Oh, sorry to sound off....
Thanks for this nice post...

Ooo, I just found you this morning and so enjoyed this post. BTW, that photo of Boudreaux on the back of the couch is adorable. Give him a little hug from me! Blessings, Shay
I love American history, and I particularly enjoy reading about the presidents. Thanks for sharing this! :-)
Happy President's Day and Blue Monday...
XO,
Sheila :-)
P.S. Thanks Judy Bug for the heads up on the Carter cookbook. I haven't seen that one, and I want to see if I can order it. :-)
Great book recommendations, thanks! I love the White House, I think it is the most beautiful Head of State dwelling in the world!
Have you seen the exhibit of gowns from the First Ladies at the
Smithsonian? It's wonderful. I saw it first on a senior class trip in (true confessions) 1970, but it's been updated since then!
Wonderful post for President's Day, thanks! (And yes, Dads are the funniest! thanks for visiting my blog and commenting, much appreciated!)

What a fun post for Blue Monday/President's Day! Enjoy your day!!
~What an amazing Blue post!
Happy Blue Monday! :)
What a wonderful post. The White house and ladies of the White House intrigue me. One of my favorite TV tours of the White House is sometimes re-run on WPSX. It is a tour of the White House given by Jacqueline Kennedy. Happy Blue Monday.

I love the history and I love reading about our President's and the White House. You did a wonderful post for today, I really enjoyed it. Happy Blue Monday and have a lovely week.
I loved your post. It makes me wonder what ever happened to a book I bought years ago about the Trumans. It was full of their letters.
Have a good Monday ☺
What a great perfect for the "day" post! You have a great collection of books! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for visiting my blog! I really enjoyed this President's Day post. I remember watching the mini series based on Backstairs at the White House. It was fascinating.
