Blue Monday - 2/2 Blue Ridge Pottery

Happy Blue Monday! I'm trying so hard to get this completed tonight. I have mounds of laundry to do tomorrow. Sigh, I would much rather play right here! My plan is to get up early, go over to Smiling Sally's and spend at least part of the morning checking out all of the Blue Monday entries.

Mr. Dumpling and I have collected Blue Ridge Pottery for many years. We haven't bought any pieces in quite a while but it's still some of my favorite pottery. I showed you a few pieces when we "plundered" in my kitchen cabinet a few weeks ago.

BUT those aren't blue are they? So let's move along!

Blue Ridge Pottery was handpainted China made from the late 1930's to mid 1950's. The factory was located in Erwin, TN. It was not expensive china. Some patterns were specifically made as grocery store china. Remember when you bought a certain amount of groceries and then could purchase the "dish of the week".

Mother purchased her set of Greenbriar from Safeway. I still have a few pieces. The platter isn't dirty I promise! That's just a lot of wear as these were our dishes for years.

The main part of our collection is in a china cabinet in my hall. This is right outside our bedroom so I pass it often. The cheerful painted pottery just makes me smile...and that's always a good thing!

One of my favorite patterns in Blue Ridge are the French Peasant pieces. These were most likely modeled after the Quimper patterns. These are among the most desired patterns.

I love my BR teapot with matching sugar and creamer. This was a real find as these are hard to find.

I love the shape of the handles don't you?

Here's a close up of the powder dish. I love this pattern!

I'll pull out a few more pieces for another Blue Monday. Come back and see my for Outdoor Wednesday. Our outdoor project is primed and ready to be painted. Yea!

Your Blue Ridge china is beautiful.
and I love your Quimper style peasant pieces, it is funny as another blogger friend has just posted about the town of Quimper, she lives in Brittany, so I just learnt all about Quimper and their china/pottery and looked at their on-line web-site. :-) I had never heard of it before, then see it mentioned twice in the same day, hugs, Kathy.

Judy,

I just love all of the pottery. You have quite a collection. I love the powder box...do you keep it in the china cabinet? By the way, you must have a large hall to keep a china cabinet in...wish I did. I don't have a formal dining room & I have been searching for a place to put a china cabinet.

Thanks for a wonderful Blue Monday post! I love seeing all your dish collections!! :-)

xoxo

Judy Bug, I'm laughing because I was going to post to you that you better be careful if Debbie sees the French Peasant, and I see that she says she rushed on over here! LOL! Debbie, it's my favorite, too! Thanks for sharing. This was very interesting and educational, not to mention NEAT china!

XO,

Sheila :-)

All your pottery is really fun. I recognize the Greenbriar as a pattern my MIL has. I'm especially attracted to the French peasant pieces you have.

Happy Laundry-ing.
