Outdoor Wednesday - Jan. 14 - A fountain

Today, I'm participating in Outdoor Wedneday. Our host for this event is Susan over at A Southern Daydreamer. Be sure to follow the link to view all the other participants. This should be a lot of fun!

I got really busy today and didn't have a chance to do a new blog post so I'm recycing an oldie but goodie with a few updates!

One of the best blessings of my life is my hubby. When we really like something and it just takes our breath away (mostly antique furniture, beautiful glassware), we call it a "dumpling". So today, I'm thankful for Mr. Dumpling. Mr. Dumpling is the one in blue. He is holding Boudreaux, also known as Angel Baby. He's a cockapoo but shhhh, we haven't told him he's a dog.

Mr. Dumpling is a Christian and a hard working man who provides for his family. He is a KEEPER! I love landscaping and adding to our new home. Fortunately, he loves landscaping also. Okay, maybe "loves" is a strong word. He really likes it. Okay, maybe "really likes" is exaggerating. He tolerates landscaping. ;-)

Which is why I appreciate his recent hard work all the more. We just completed adding a new fountain to the side courtyard. I wanted to stay with a Southern theme. We found the sugar kettle and bronze herons at a wonderful shop in Port Allen, LA. It was our 33rd anniversay present to each other.

Mr. Dumpling installed the fountain and then landscaped around it. We included lariope, agapanthus and pansies for a touch of color. Agapanthus is stunning when in bloom. This is a pic of another bed when it was blooming this summer.

We, (okay, he) added the new bed to the left of the fountain this week. If you live in Louisiana, you have probably heard of Forest Hills. It is a wonderful place to buy plants and trees. We added azaleas, more agapanthus and a couple of Chinese Pistachio trees.

How I love to sit on the porch in my rocking chair, hold my sweet cockapoo Boudreaux and listen to the fountain. What peace!

If you follow my blog (and please be sure to click on "Follow Me" in the sidebar), you know we had a wedding here on New Year's Eve. Here's the bride in front of the fountain. Isn't she beautiful?

Judy Bug,

First of all, I love Louisiana, and I also love your sugar kettle and cranes! Looks great! And the landscaping is perfect around it.

Love your tribute to your "Mr. Dumpling" (glad he loves the Lord, too!), your beautiful bride, and your precious dog-who-does-not-know-he's-a-dog.

To answer the question you asked on my blog, no, we didn't install the walkway ourselves. We had a landscape designer design things. If you're working with brick and concerned about the drainage in your yard, you can do what our next door neighbor did and seat them in sand. You get a tighter bond with brick unlike stone if you do that.

I also like the stepping stones that are large and octagonal with some sort of ground cover or moss in between. We are looking into doing that at our residence (the one in the pic is a getaway). We have brick there now and are ready for a change because the brick color is not a good match to the house.

XO,

Sheila :-)

Judy, your home and gardens are lovely! I enjoyed looking at all your pictures. I'm a Louisiana girl myself, and my hubby sounds like he shares a lot of the same qualities as your Mr. Dumpling!

What a sweet post. You and Mr. Dumpling are quite the pair! Love your pup, how did you come up with the name? The courtyard is beautiful, I love seeing plants from regions other than my own. Unfortunately, I don't know much about them, but they are pretty!!
